Why We Support the Fred Hollows Foundation
At Eyehouse, we’re big admirers of Fred’s passion and dedication.
His Foundation has restored sight to over 3 million people across 25 countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Asia, and Africa. That legacy isn’t just remarkable, it’s inspiring.
Both of my parents were born in Africa. I’ve seen poverty up close. In some places, $15 is a month’s salary, and when food is scarce, eye health is often the first thing sacrificed. That reality shapes how I see this work. It’s not just about restoring sight, it’s about restoring dignity, freedom, and opportunity.
Fred Hollows’ work isn’t just about performing surgeries. It’s more:
- Preventing avoidable blindness through screening and treatment
- Training local doctors and teams to create lasting solutions
- Distributing glasses, treating infectious diseases like trachoma, and building up communities so they can care for their own
That kind of long-term thinking is what we admire most. It’s not charity, it’s building sustainable systems that will endure.

The Eyehouse Connection
Our mission is simple: to Prevent, Protect, and Preserve vision. And we believe there is strength in unity. Eye health should be available to everyone, everywhere — no matter where you’re born or how much you earn.
That’s why we support the Fred Hollows Foundation.
With over 20 years in optometry, including 10 years owning a multiple award nominated Specsavers store, I’ve seen how treatable conditions can become life-altering when left unaddressed. During that time, we proudly donated tens of thousands of dollars to Fred Hollows. And we’re continuing that legacy through Eyehouse.
Every Order Helps
A portion of our annual profits goes toward supporting Fred Hollows’ mission, to restore sight, build eye-care systems that last, and ensure no one is left behind.
Every time you make a purchase from Eyehouse, know that you’re also giving someone less fortunate a chance at a better future.
We’re honoured to be part of that future, with you.
