Eyelid cleansing wipes, your questions answered
Q1. How do I use these eyelid wipes?
Wash your hands, open the sachet, close your eye and wipe gently side to side across the lid and lashes. Clean between the lashes rather than just over the top of them.
Use a fresh wipe for the second eye. Do not wipe along the inner lid or the waterline.
Q2. What is the hyaluronic acid doing?
Holding moisture in the skin around the eye.
Most lid wipes clean and leave the area dry, which is uncomfortable and puts people off using them. Hyaluronic acid, together with the chamomile and aloe in this formulation, is there to soften that effect.
Q3. Are these wipes preservative free?
Yes, and they are formulated as a low allergen option.
That is the main practical difference between these and tea tree based wipes. There is no tea tree oil here, so no tingle, which makes them a gentler daily choice for sensitive skin.
Q4. Should I choose these or tea tree wipes?
It depends what you are dealing with. These are a straightforward daily cleanse for removing debris, pollen, makeup residue and secretions from the lid margin.
Tea tree based wipes such as Blephadex are aimed more specifically at demodex mites. If your optometrist has raised mites with you, that is the one to reach for. For general daily lid hygiene, these are easier to live with.
Q5. Can I use one as a warm compress?
Yes. The wipe may be warmed before use, which some people find helps soften debris along the lash line first.
If you are using a heat mask as well, do the heat first and clean afterwards.
Q6. Can children use them?
They are suitable for adults and children over 12.
For younger children, speak with your optometrist about what is appropriate.
Q7. Do I need to take my contact lenses out?
Yes. Remove lenses before cleaning your lids, then reinsert afterwards.
