Most caffeine eye creams combine the active with synthetic preservatives and fragrance that can cause contact sensitisation on the thin periorbital skin. This formula uses a plant derived preservative system based on rosemary, oregano, and thyme extracts and is free from every ingredient class excluded under the EFR Gold standard. 100% Pure reports 97% of users saw reduced puffiness and 87% saw reduced dark circles in a four week study. Apply a small amount using the ring finger, dabbing gently around the full eye area morning and evening.
Dark circles have two main causes: vascular pooling, where small blood vessels under the thin periorbital skin show through, and pigmentation, which is structural and less responsive to topical treatment.
Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor that may help reduce the vascular component by constricting those superficial vessels. 100% Pure reports 87% of users saw reduced dark circles in a four week study. The effect is most visible on vascular dark circles, which are the type that worsen with tiredness or poor sleep.
The periorbital skin is three to five times thinner than the rest of the face and sits directly above the lid margin. An ingredient that tests as safe for the cheek can still cause contact dermatitis or meibomian gland disruption when applied in the eye area daily.
EFR Gold requires the full ingredient list to be free from synthetic fragrance, parabens, phenoxyethanol, petrochemicals, PEGs, and all 26 EU SCCS fragrance allergens. This cream clears every tier. The plant derived preservative system, rosemary, oregano, and thyme extracts, replaces the synthetic alternatives found in most eye creams.
Green coffee seed extract delivers caffeine alongside chlorogenic acid, a polyphenol antioxidant present at higher concentrations in unroasted coffee than in the roasted version. Green tea extract provides EGCG, another well studied polyphenol with documented antioxidant properties in peer reviewed topical research.
Both are naturally derived and appear on the EU SCCS Gold eligible list, meaning neither triggers the EFR allergen exclusion despite being botanically active ingredients.
Use the ring finger. It naturally applies the lightest pressure of any finger, which matters on periorbital skin that has very little supporting tissue underneath.
Dab rather than rub, working from the inner corner outward along both the upper and lower orbital bone. Do not drag the skin. A small amount covers the full area. Apply morning and evening after cleansing, before heavier moisturisers or SPF.
Topically applied caffeine is a vasoconstrictor that temporarily constricts the small blood vessels under the eye. That reduces the pooling of blood that shows as darkness, and decreases fluid retention that causes puffiness.
The effect is temporary and cosmetic, but caffeine is one of the better-evidenced topical ingredients for this purpose, which is why it appears in clinical-grade as well as natural skincare.
The caffeine is derived from coffee beans rather than synthetic caffeine. 100% Pure uses food-grade and naturally derived ingredients throughout their range rather than synthetic alternatives.
Yes, it is formulated for the under-eye area. Apply to the orbital bone area and blend inward gently. Avoid the lash line and do not apply directly to the eyelid.
If product enters the eye, rinse with water.
Apply before inserting lenses and allow it to fully absorb before putting lenses in. Avoid getting product on the lens surface.
100% Pure avoids synthetic fragrance, artificial dyes, and harsh preservatives, which are the ingredients most commonly flagged in periocular reactions. The Eyehouse EFR assessment looks specifically at these ingredients before any skincare product is added to the range.
Use your ring finger, which naturally applies the lightest pressure. Pat gently from the outer corner inward along the orbital bone. Do not rub or drag the skin.
