Most day creams are formulated for one skin type at a time. If some areas tend towards oiliness while others feel dry, you are usually left choosing between two products that each only do half the job.
Melissa Day Cream by Dr Hauschka is formulated specifically for combination skin types. Extracts of melissa, daisy, anthyllis, witch hazel, and carrot work together to support the skin's natural oil and moisture balance, while tapioca starch helps maintain a smooth, even appearance throughout the day. It is certified to NATRUE standards, free from synthetic fragrances, dyes, preservatives, mineral oils, parabens, silicone, phthalates, and PEGs. If you are building a natural skincare routine, it pairs well with Clarifying Day Oil for additional support across the day.
Suitable for combination skin types looking for a certified natural moisturiser without synthetic ingredients.
Eyehouse Tip: Dr Hauschka moisturisers are concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Warm a pea-sized amount between your palms first to soften the natural waxes, then press gently onto your face while the skin is still slightly damp from toner. This helps absorption and gives you a much more even application than rubbing it in. No night cream is recommended with this range. Instead, use a Clarifying Toner in the evening followed by Night Serum if desired.
Dermatologically tested for sensitive skin. Free from synthetic fragrances, dyes, and preservatives. Not tested on animals. Raw materials sourced from controlled organic or biodynamic (Demeter certified) cultivation wherever possible.
Silver Eye Friendly Rating (EFR)
Melissa Day Cream earns a Silver rating for its NATRUE certified formulation, free from synthetic fragrances, preservatives, mineral oils, parabens, silicones, phthalates, and PEGs. All raw materials are sourced from controlled organic or biodynamic cultivation and the product is dermatologically tested for sensitive skin.
Melissa officinalis, also known as lemon balm, is a calming herb with mild anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. In skincare it is traditionally used to calm reactive or redness-prone skin.
For periocular skin that tends toward redness or irritation, a melissa-based product is a well-considered choice.
Reactive, sensitive, or redness-prone skin. Also suits skin that feels stressed or easily triggered by environmental changes, pollution, or temperature shifts.
Apply to the face and orbital area. Avoid the eyelid margin and lash line. Use your dedicated eye cream for the eyelid and immediate under-eye zone.
Dr Hauschka does not use synthetic fragrance. There may be a very mild natural plant scent from the melissa extract. If you have a specific sensitivity to natural plant aromatics, check the ingredient list before purchasing.
After cleansing, toning, and any serum, as your final moisturising step morning and evening.
Both target sensitive and reactive skin. The soothing range uses witch hazel, anthyllite, and calming plant extracts. The melissa cream specifically centres melissa leaf as its core calming active. If redness and flushing are your primary concern, the soothing lotion is often recommended first. If you want a richer cream with melissa as the key botanical, this is the choice.
Yes. For patients whose skin around the eye area is frequently red, reactive, or prone to contact dermatitis, a calm, fragrance-free formula with soothing botanicals applied to the orbital and surrounding skin is a sensible first step. The melissa cream is one of the options I consider in that situation.
