Most liquid liners use synthetic dyes and preservatives flagged for contact sensitisation at the lid margin. This formula is pigmented with organic micronised black tea and preserved with honeysuckle flower extract. Apply to the outer lash line only, not the waterline. Replace every three to four months. Remove thoroughly each evening with a micellar or oil based remover, soak and wipe rather than rub.
The three most common irritants in conventional eyeliner are synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrance, and preservatives such as phenoxyethanol, all of which are flagged for contact sensitisation at the lid margin in the TFOS DEWS II report.
Most liquid liners combine all three. The 100% Pure formula replaces synthetic dye with micronised black tea pigment and uses honeysuckle flower extract as the preservative system instead.
Application position is the main variable. Liner on the outer lash line stays away from the tear film and gland openings. Liner on the waterline sits directly over the meibomian gland openings and increases the chance of particles entering the tear film and depositing on the lens surface.
For lens wearers, apply to the outer lash line only. Insert lenses before application so the liner sets before any lens movement.
The Eyehouse Eye Friendly Rating Gold tier requires the full ingredient list to be free from synthetic fragrance, parabens, phenoxyethanol, petrochemicals, PEGs, and all 26 EU SCCS listed fragrance allergens whether from synthetic or natural sources.
This liner holds Gold because it clears every tier of that standard. It is one of a small number of eyeliners on the Eyehouse catalogue to do so.
Dark Chocolate is a deep warm brown. It softens the lash line naturally, suits daytime wear, and is particularly flattering on fair or cool skin tones where pure black can read as too harsh. It gives definition without the high contrast of a true black.
Black Tea is the deeper, bolder choice. It delivers a true black from a plant derived pigment rather than synthetic dye, and suits evening wear, medium to deep skin tones, and anyone who wants a classic, precise line. Both share the same EFR Gold rated formula. The only difference is the finish.
The brand avoids synthetic dyes, artificial fragrances, and harsh preservatives, which are the three ingredients most commonly flagged in our Eye Friendly Rating assessment for eye area cosmetics.
The pigments are derived from fruit, vegetables, and other natural sources rather than synthetic colourants, which reduces the risk of the contact sensitisation that some people develop with conventional liners.
Apply before putting lenses in, or better, after inserting lenses and before they settle. Keep the liner to the outer lash line rather than the waterline if you wear lenses regularly.
Waterline application, regardless of brand, increases the risk of liner particles contaminating the tear film and depositing on lens surfaces.
It is formulated for long wear. Remove with a gentle micellar water or oil-based remover on a cotton pad. Soak and wipe, do not rub.
Rubbing the lid margin to remove eyeliner over time contributes to lash loss and lid skin thinning.
It depends on the severity. In a flare, I generally recommend avoiding all eye cosmetics until the lid margin has settled. In stable periods, a clean, preservative-minimal liner like this is a better choice than a conventional one.
Always remove thoroughly at the end of the day, and replace the product every three to four months.

Dark Chocolate is a deep warm brown, softer and more natural looking than black, particularly flattering for fair skin or anyone who finds black liner too harsh for daytime wear.
Look for a warm, natural pigment free from synthetic dyes and fragrance, applied to the outer lash line rather than the waterline. 100% Pure Long Last Liquid Eyeliner in Dark Chocolate suits daytime wear and reactive eyes particularly well.
