"The Best Magnifying Glass, There's nothing more to say"

by Dee Makadia 05 Jun 2025 0 comments

Not long ago, I popped into an optometrist's practice to drop off a few SeeBigger magnifiers, just part of my day. I wasn’t expecting to witness such a meaningful moment.

There was a lovely patient there (who prefers to stay anonymous), she had retinitis pigmentosa and had recently bought new glasses. But even with the updated prescription, she was still struggling to read. Books, letters, even labels, it had all become a frustrating blur.

SeeBigger magnifier for retinitis pigmentosa

So, we decided to try a few magnifiers together.

First up was the Eschenbach 3.5x, the most popular magnifier in Australia. But the moment she picked it up, she found it awkward to hold and hard to focus with. The rectangular lens didn’t give her the clarity or comfort she needed, and honestly, it just didn’t feel right for her.

Then we tried the SeeBigger Angel and Diamond.

The Angel was nice, but it was the Diamond that really lit up her face, literally and figuratively. She loved how clear it was, and the three light options made all the difference, with a middle setting that reduces blue light, meaning we weren’t putting any extra stress on her already challenged retina. That level of thoughtfulness really matters.

And the price? The Diamond retails at $149.95, significantly less than similar options, which can be upwards of $285. And yet, this patient found the SeeBigger Diamond to be more comfortable, brighter and clearer for her eyes.

Trialing magnifiers at residential care home

Later that day, I brought the same SeeBigger magnifiers to a local residential care home where several residents had macular degeneration.

The response? The same.

"I tried both, and hands down the Diamond won. It was brighter, quicker to focus through, and the bright light made all the difference. The Eschenbach just didn’t compare in how clear it was or how easy it was to use."
— John, 75, living with macular degeneration

Many preferred the Diamond, appreciating the better contrast, easier grip, and brighter light, but those who had mild to moderate AMD preferred the Angel magnifier due to its magnification.

Why It Matters

When you’re living with a condition like macular degeneration or retinitis pigmentosa, the little things make the biggest difference. A magnifier that’s easier to use, gentler on the eyes, and doesn’t cost the earth can quite literally change someone’s daily life.

If you or a loved one are struggling to read clearly, before spending big on complex gadgets, maybe give the SeeBigger Diamond or Angel a try.

Sometimes, a better view of the world comes from something as simple as the right tool in your hands.

100% of the people who have compared magnifiers have reported the Angel Magnifier to be better than its competitors for patients with minimal retinal problems. That's why we offer a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee and Free Shipping.
